heh.. I get myself into trouble all the time by tinkering (but thats
another story).

Have you had alook at the instruction here?:

The pid file on my machine is in /usr/local/mysql-<ver>/data, and I
installed the entropy.ch package as well, so it should be in a similar
place on your box.

If they don't work for you then there is a way to reset everything, but
it's kind of a last ditch attempt which involves killing mysql and then
blowing away some stuff in the data/ directory. But like I say, thats
last ditch stuff and we don't want to go down that route unless we have
to *:)
