There's a number of ways around this. For instance, I use a
JavaScript/IE-based rich-text editor on our intranet that allows people
to edit in a MS-Word-like interface, but it generates clean code (for
the most part). There are some commercial products to do this in a
cross-platform/cross-browser environment, such as Editize
(http://www.editize.com/) or EditWorks Pro
(http://www.editworkspro.com/) and some other promising rich-text
editors done in Flash MX (http://www.illogicz.com/flashmx/texteditor/).
