oh, well if that's all it is.  i can think of *much* worse things -- like
regular expressions.

if you're building an authentication system and you're giving the user the
ability to have their username and/or password emailed to them if they
forget it, please do your users a favor and make sure to either use a unique
constraint on the email column or force the constraint in your application
logic.  there's *nothing* worse than registering a second account on
accident and the system sending you the password from the second account
every time you try to retrieve the password from the first account.
