I don't think that XML reqires a space before the slash. The reason why
people often use spaces before slashes is so that older browsers that
only support HTML and don't recognize the tag in a format of <br/>
wouldn't crap out when trying to render a XHTML page. So, in HTML you
usually want <br />

In XML you can do <br/> and <img/> without the space, however.

That's what I have read, anyway (it's been a while since I last read
though the XML spec, but I'm quite sure that you *do not* need a space
and that it isn't an official recommendation in full XML documents,
which WML is).
