sometimes i think they misinterpret the things they read because they
don't have enough practical knowledge in the medium (sure, they know
lots about OS UIs, but the web isn't something they do every day)...

in particular, note this closing statement from the march 2001 update
(http://www.humanfactors.com/downloads/mar01.asp):

"Providing the ideal monitor resolution for users will continue to be
a challenge for designers. To make it even more difficult, any
serious discussion of monitor resolution also should include a
discussion of monitor size. Kalbach (2001) references an article
written by Adrian Roselli ("aardvark" ) that seems to suggest that as
monitors size get larger, offering larger viewable browsing areas,
users tend to concurrently open more pages (the aardvark reference is
shown below). [...]"

in no way did my article (http://evolt.org/Screen_Stats_2) make any
assertions about the number of windows a user will open based on
monitor size... or even screen resolution... nor did i reference
monitor size, since size and resolution are not inextricably
linked...

i wrote dr. bailey to tell him, and i did get some feedback, but the
reference was never changed, and i'm not sure he knew what i meant
when i raised the point...

sometimes you just have to frame articles like this properly by
reading their sources, and then considering the real-world
experiences of the authors...
