This is what I do with Pegasus Mail to archive one year of messages:

a) create a "2002" folder anywhere on the hard disk (or even on a ZIP
disk)

b) after opening the "Folders" panel in PMail, go
Folders > Add mailbox to list and type the full path for the "2002"
folder.

c) move to the new mailbox and create a "TheList-2002" mail folder

d) go back to your current TheList archive, select all the messages
you want to save and "move" them to the new archive

e) select the new mailbox, right click and choose "disconnect this
mailbox" if you don't think you will need your archive right away
(when you do, just repeat step B)

Done.
