I don't have an answer for your problem, but hopefully this will be of some
use in your research:

Google has a "filetype:" search feature, which restricts your results to
certain file formats. Using a minus sign in front of "filetype:" will
exclude those formats from your results.

For example, to find pdf documents containing "aardvark":
http://google.com/search?q=aardvark+filetype%3Apdf

Or, to find pages which contain "pdf" but are not in pdf format:
http://google.com/search?q=pdf+-filetype%3Apdf
