They will eventually, but prefer to let the reseller sort everything out.

Firstly do a whois on your domain name and check to see if the domain name
is registered with your email address as one of the contacts for technical,
billing, admin.
http://resellers.tucows.com/opensrs/whois/ and get the actual account
details of the Registration Service Provider.

As you state you can't request a transfer on an expired domain, so do try
support at opensrs.org.

But, from http://resellers.tucows.com/enduser/
"Remember that OpenSRS, as a wholesale organization, has very little to do
with RSP/client relations -- we only get involved when the Reseller has
breached some element of its OpenSRS service contract."

IANAL but not renewing a name you've paid for is a fairy obvious breach of
contract to me.

Anyway, as I've said Tucows/Opensrs are normally fairly bright about these
things, so you should be able to get them to help.
