No website is an island. A site that links to nothing is a flag that they
have little to offer.
For google, a large portion of your rank in their database depends on the
number and quality of INCOMING links to your site. The better your site,
the more people will link to you = the higher you will show up
It is often easier to get quality incoming links if you provide a
reciprocal.
