[thelist] Multiple form submit (back button issue)

I always struggle with multi-page forms that the user might hit the back
button wanting to change previous data.  Ideally, I would like the user to
be able to hit the back button and make changes that will be submitted to
the database. How does the community manage this issue?  Cookies, sessions,
unique sql queries?
