Why did you say unless an Oracle database?  Is there some way to do this
  easily w/ Oracle?

I've got a similar setup, where I have the need to traverse multiples in
  an Oracle DB; currently I've limited it to two though until I figure
out a way to make it run (fast).

Any insight would be appreciated.
