Jeniffer,

As an alternative to the various synchronization solutions discussed at
length previously, perhaps you may consider VNC.
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

VNC is a little tool that allows you to see and interact with your desktop
remotely from any computer on the internet, like Terminial Services. It's
an awesome tool. There are a number of variants in addition to the one
listed above (including ones with SSH security) but they all basically work
the same. WinXP actually has Terminal Services baked in, so you can work
remotely from anywhere. VNC has both a Java based browser based client (so
you can literally sit down at any public computer and work on your home
machine) and a tiny little client for your laptop that's a little zippier
than the java client.

Since your real goal here is not synchronization, but rather reliable access
to important files while on the road, this may be a solution.

Another alternative solution would be to modify your "MY Documents" folder
(or whereever you keep your files) and make it remotely accessible via VPN.
THere are security issues to be addressed but again you are now working on
only one set of files.

The downside to both solutions is you have to be connected to use them, so
no airplane work.
