I'm designing a website for a doctor. He wants to have a one-on-one
pay-per-X-minutes (I'm thinking 5-15 minute increments) chat room
through which he and other doctors can schedule consultation sessions
with patients.

I am in need of a chat applet that will facilitate this time-limited
chat session effectively.

I have two possibilities in mind:

1) I'd like to tie it into a MySQL backend to retrieve the amount of
time that the patient has pre-payed.

2) Charge the patient AFTER the chat session. (Somehow the chat
client would have to transmit the amount of time to a payment page).

IMO, option #1 would be not only easier, but more secure also since
the user must prepay.

Obviously, the chat applet must be very stable since money is
involved (heh, when is it not involved?)

Do y'all have any feedback on this or recommendations for chat
applets that will accomplish this?

TIA,
David Bindel
