[thelist] ntfs and metadata

Hi folks,

Im looking at the design phase of a ASP web based document browser/search
tool. Basically allowing users to upload documnets to the server and
my plan was to use IIS indexing to search the catalog of uploaded docs.

ISS indexing works on file metadata, such as that stored in a word doc,
author, keywords, etc so i can search on this. The only thing is many
people to not populate this info in their word docs so what i wanted to
do was to allow them to enter this info into the web interface and then
for the ASP backend to write this metadata information into the file.

Is it possible to write the metadata of a file using ASP?

I haven't been able to find anything so far, am i barking up the wrong
tree on this implementation idea?

Any feedback, resourse links etc would be much appreciated.

Using the ISS indexing/search tools seems a far simpler way of implementing
this tool than storing the info in a DB ect and writing the search
tool myself.

thanks,

Simon.
