This may be totally inappropriate for your needs, but I'm in the
process of building a searchable document database using AskSam db and
some custom VB scripting. The idea is that a user creates a Word doc,
clicks a macro button and the document is sent/saved to the database,
which is then searchable via natural language queries. The doc is
searchable either via "meta tags" that the user inserts into the Word
doc or simply on the basis of the content of the Word doc.

This app won't be used on an web-based intranet though users will
access and search the db across a LAN using the free AskSam viewer
software.
