As a web user, I hate it when I cannot see what is happening. I would be
glad to see the message 'Opening page: xxxxx.swf', since it tells me that my
browser is loading a flash file, which might take a while. I can also decide
based on the info on the statusbar that this is not what I wanted to see,
cancel the page and go on to the next link.
My advice: don't touch the status bar.
