curious where you're getting these stats. is it just personal observation about the corner of the web you frequent or is it data from a much larger research effort.

"nose-to-the-grindstone work" != "pretty technically intricate garbage"

no offense to anyone here that's in the "nose-to-the-grindstone work" category, but it doesn't require much talent, knowledge, or experience to produce mediocrity. just give half a glance at the majority of the sites on the net and you'll see what i mean. i personally would rather not be in that category, but instead be constantly pushing the envelope, finding new, better ways to do things, and quite possibly pissing off great numbers of the "nose-to-the-grindstone work" category of people who refuse to step outside their bubble of comfort. granted, i'm not pissing them off on purpose, but it is certainly a nice bonus.

so, i guess my question is, why the criticism? is it because the direction the people that are pushing the edge is wrong? if so, according to who? or, is it because it makes those that wanna be comfortable where they are uncomfortable with the inevitable change knowing they'll have to learn some new things or go the way of the dodo?
