Looks like a browser initiated mail session (SMTP: port 25)
Yes - it would be - trying to see if you're running an open mail relay
from an http based mail client?
Maila.microsoft.com is a mail relay for MS

Subject: [thelist] weird log entry

Hi;

I spotted an unusual entry in a logfile for one of my sites:

64.228.71.71 - - [23/Mar/2003:11:49:02 -0500] "CONNECT
maila.microsoft.com:25 / HTTP/1.0" 400 299 "-" "-"

The IP belongs to a Canadian ISP but any idea what this CONNECT
request means? What were they looking for?

ciao

Massimo
