you're talking about the difference between support for http 1.0 vs http
1.1.  the number of browsers that only support http 1.0 is extremely small.
so small, in fact, that most of us here will never see one of these browsers
in our logs.  the reality is that there are considerably more domain names
than there are available ip addresses.  consequently,  a great number of
hosts will no longer give out unique ip addresses per domain.
