is it my fault i get spam within 24 hours of creating a new hotmail account?
is it my fault i get spam at an address that i've never used when signing up
for anything online or posted on my site?
is it my fault i get spam at an address that i've only ever shared with
family members?
is it my fault i choose to not live in a bubble and protect my email address
like the pound of gold it is not?
seriously, posting your email address on a website is only one of a
*million* ways spammers can get ahold of it.
i'd love to see a study that shows what percentage of spam is as a result of
posting an email address to a website vs the many other ways your email
address can get into the wrong hands.

depends on if you stay under an awning or not ;p

it doesn't require big bucks to implement "fancy-schmancy" spam filters.
you can do very well for *free*.

so what about sites that cross the line, like mine, between personal and
professional?
