Liam,
Maybe you could take an old CDR, put permanent marker on
the data side and try some cleaning agents, to see what
works, and then see if it destroys the data as well.
I was thinking paint thinner might work on the marker, but
it might melt the plastic too.

A client has had a supplier of is artwork for a soon to be
published
website, write in marker pen on the data side of the disc.

Hopefully I can just clean off the offending "permanent"
marker somehow and
read the disc properly - at the moment I can get about a
third of the
data...
