F8 on startup will give you boot choices - just straight after POST -
choose standard safe mode (no drivers) safe mode command prompt (as
you'd guess) safe mode with networking (basic network drivers and
tcp/ip)... And so on, and so forth.

Wy Win inexperience is showing but how do I go into 'safe' mode? Just
for future ref for me, I was able to clean my machine but I'd still like
to know...
