[thelist] CSS background positioning and link borders

When I view the page Gregory put together and use my wheel on my mouse 
to scroll vertically the page moves quickly and smoothly.

When I view the page Simon put together, and do the same, it is slow to 
react and is jumpy. As if the browser is bogged-down.
