Interesting, and thanks to all, because I hadn't even thought of
Flash in this context, but "converting" wasn't really something I
wanted to spend time on :-)

So let me recast the question. Apparently Windows Media Player and
QuickTime players can show MPEG1 -- so that actually covers Windows
and Mac users with the default format.

Is there a commonly available desktop Linux viewer for MPEG1?

Am I missing anything by just using MPEG1 natively?
