I've used PalTalk. They offer voice, text, and video chatting with their
software. I think it's free. You can upgrade to their more premium software
at a price (no adverts). 

I used it to talk to my extended family in South Africa and Houston. They
can also go beyond that and set up vertual conference rooms with video
conferencing available.
