Good point - you should have [R=301,L] to indicate that this is a
permanent redirect.

There are few more annoying things than a site that doesn't support
requests without the www. subdomain. Make sure example.com works, and
either redirect example.com to www.example.com or let example.com work
alongside www.example.com
