This isn't quite what you're looking for, but bear with me -- there's a 
useable idea in here somewheres ;)

There are a few book cataloging programs I've seen for OS X that use 
such a thing.  You enter an ISBN and the program goes over the internet 
and searches for info from both amazon and the Library of Congress 
based on ISBN.

Two I can think of off the top of my head are "Books" and "Booxter".  
My thought is, drop either of the authors an email politely asking what 
database they search from.  They just might answer you :)

Books is open-source, so you might even find something directly in the 
source download.
