Hey Folks,
I'm fairly sure this topic has been done to death but I cannot find the thread in the archives.
Note to admin: The link to the FULL zipped archive (which I figured I could search through) is
broken. If that could be fixed I could muddle through that.
My problem - we need a CMS solution for our Intranet. Currently we are using Epicentric/Vignette
and it is the MOST PAINFUL thing in the world. Case in point, I just lost 8 hours of work to a
server crash. That's merely the tip of the iceberg.
Right now they are pushing BEA Weblogic 8 Portal as a possible solution. This is yet another
hugely complex application that is overkill for an intranet.
What I want is this:
- Versioning/rollback capability
- Ease of administration. I should be easily be able to add documents, pages, sections. I'd like
for John Doe to be able to add documents and maybe even edit his own section pages
- Direct hands on to the interface. I want the site to be CSS/XHTML based, lean and mean
That's basically it. We aren't doing anything too crazy, basically posting a bunch of
informational documents and news stories. There might be one or two registration tools.
Things I've looked at:
- Drupal.org - seems to be a glorified blog. I don't think it has version control.
- eZ Publish (http://www.ez.no/) I got their intranet example up and running fairly quickly a bit
ago. But I'd love to talk to someone who has hands on experience with this.
I really want to stay away from the overpriced behemoths. We really need some simple but
effective. I guess that's the challenge of a CMS no? :)
Suggestions, comments appreciated!
Tom
