1) You mentioned you had NT running on the machine.  Have you checked the
2k3 HCL?  Don't know how that would explain the 2 minute to the hour issue
(Iron Maiden fan maybe?) but it's worth checking.

2) Does the lock up happen even if the machine is not on the network?  My
hardcore sys admin days are far behind me, but if memory serves, MS servers
talk to each other a lot--master browser elections and so forth.  Again,
that sort of issue doesn't immediately explain the issue you are having, but
it might explain why there is an issue.  You mentioned NT--any special
considerations mixing pre-2k servers (no AD) with a post-2k server (yes AD)?

If it still happens even when not connected to the network, and the HCL
clears, then I'd say new hardware is cheaper than what it's going to cost
you in time and sanity to figure this one out.

And just to throw the obvious out there, have to posted this to the MS
newsgroups?  There's a pretty good chance, whatever your situation is,
someone out there has done the exact same thing and had the same issue.
