[thelist] Taking over a Web site

Getting the original design files might be difficult, if the design firm
values their work. You might get them for a hefty fee.

I do know that *I* won't give up work files without charging--usually
anywhere from 3-4 times the usage fee.

Just a question -

While MOST of the work you want resides on the server, there may be other
files you will need. For example, if graphics work was done, there may be
graphics files you need.

As an example, while working in Adobe Illustrator, all work is kept in an
Illustraitor file (extension .ai), but the final work is presented with the
extension you need (eg .jpg or .gif).

If you ever need to make changes to that artwork, you will need the original
art files.
