One small trick I use is to set up a small partition of a Gig or two and use
that as a temp space. It's simply faster and easier for me to select a drive
or type D: then it to use C:\TMP or some other directory.

My boss actually sets up a 50K partition first on his Windows machines and
installs DOS there. He claims it has helped him salvage machines in the
past.
