Something to do with Adobe Acrobat I would suggest. Maybe it's trying to
update something? But the reader version doesn't have that functionality,
whereas the full version does.

Use Filemon if you want to see what type of file operations are occurring
(www.sysinternals.com). Monitor the PDF files and look for Access Denied
errors.
