[thelist] RE: Transition from Print to Web

I think I may have misinterpreted what Burhan Khalid
said about his company and customers. Looking closer,
it seems that Burhan's company doesn't sell widgets,
it helps manufacturers who sell widgets to sell more
widgets.

Yet the main idea of transition of print to web
remains this: sure, a packaging designer could have
valid comments on web design, a web is a sort of
package, and a print designer could have valid
comments on web design.

But webs are not print ads, brochures, catalogs, or
any other print medium. Webs are supposed to be
interactive, with various sets of credibility and
scannability aspects that are not relevant to print
media.

While some print media creative types have enjoyed
success in the web realm, it takes learning the
differences between print and web, and not imposing
print media principles on web design.

A creative director with almost no web experience
coming up with web concepts--hard to understand this.
