Even with in-house web-based intranet applications we try to be as
standards complient as possible. Fortunately (or unfortunately dependent
upon your POV) our browser use is mandated for non-savvy users. We use
XHTML, CSS where needed, tables where needed and JavaScript where
needed.

Bying adhering to standards in those areas it allows us less worry on
the look, feel and usability so that we can focus on the code required
to make the application function properly. If we were a web shop we
would do the same things.
