[thelist] Tuesday Annoyance: mysqldump failes

Hello all!

Well, after that refreshing thread about regex (I opted, based on list
advice, simply to use my existing regex for email and url types, and just
ignore the problem), I've got another doozie that's really driving me out of
my mind.

I've got a mysql database that's quite large, built by another developer.
One of the tables is several hundred thousand rows.

Mysqldump will not dump, not even tables. Even on a dual XEON machine with
6GB of ram, it gets halfway through the table and just dies. I want to
convert the crappy database to postgres, which would help at least in the
interm while we're porting it. What a piece of crap.

But! In order to convert, I need a dump.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one? I've tried dumping it via php (900
seconds, 1024 MB memory cap), and it just won't do it.

Help? Anyone solved this one?
