The petition is to the regulators, not Adobe, of course - to use a bad 
metaphor, telling the lion to stop eating would be silly. Telling the 
liontamer to cage the lion would be the idea...

Enough people sending comments regarding the potential monopoly created 
by the merger might have some effect (note that Network Solutions was 
forced to stop its controversial redirecting practice when an 
overwhelming number of people protested, mostly online).

That is, it might work if the liontamers still have whips and chairs 
anymore...
