   I've never heard of one.  And minor speed gain or not, that's going to be a maintenance nightmare.

I have a need to store a large number of images on a Server 2003 box. By
large number, I mean in the neighborhood of 1 or 2 million or so. Assuming
that the images are accessed randomly, is there a speed advantage to storing
the images in hundreds or thousands of subfolders and subsubfolders--thereby
limiting the number of images in any one folder--versus putting all the
images in one folder.
