T--} First of all, I _do_ appreciate the on-point responses.  ...Now, to 
save anyone else the trouble of repeating the comment, re: the offtopic 
header info.  Again, it is just my template.  It is a collection of tools. 
A big lump of clay.  When I am at the finalizing stage, I will remove 
whatever is unnecessary.  This is just the way I work.  ...I have learned my 
lesson.  I will just post the very snippet of code that pertains to my 
question, and follow up with more if necessary.  I should have edited all 
that out before posting. My bad.

T--} And to repeat, for anyone who might be interested in the solution to 
the originally posted problem.  Removing the "background: fixed" corrected 
the problem in Firefox.
