I'm sure I read that someone was imprisoned in the US for stealing
bandwidth, and over here (UK) another has been given a caution. Can't
find the links right now... think it was on BBC...

Whilst the product being stolen and probably isn't going to be missed
it's still stealing and one could miss use the bandwidth (spam,
downloads) etc. Plus, more and more providers are limiting usage, so
by using anther's connection you could be increasing the bill. SO,
your friend must talk to them first.

A neighbour and I have an agreement that when one or other of us is
unable to connect to our own systems we can use the others for email
etc.
