Casey, the reply that Ken made was in no way condescending. As was 
pointed out in Matt's response, there are several ways to accomplish the 
task you are looking for, some better, some worse and some possibly not 
available to you. This depends on your dbms, whether that column is 
indexed, whether the column is a varchar or an int, etc.

People are taking the time to try and help you even if you don't 
recognize it. Trashing them for it won't earn you any points and will 
likely make very helpful people (like Ken) not want to help you in 
future. Please keep this in mind when replying to the list.
