I never had to worry with random DOS attacks, but there were a huge
multitude of log entries for (not that it mattered, as I was running
Apache) scripts looking for IIS parent path vulnerabilities, cmd.exe
exploits, and random hunting - as I mentioned for phpMyAdmin and phpBB
in certain paths.

My experience is you will need some a good firewall because in less
than a week cyber-junkies who want to have some fun will find you out
and may cause headaches on your server with their DOS attacks.
