Thanks, but I guess my question didn't get across. My best translation 
of your use of the "gd" label would be "first I make the site using 
standard XHTML, then I add proprietary XmlHttpRequest with a silent 
capabilities test". Your link points to additional serverside 
development for the split in user capabilities, which implies that the 
server would need to know about clientside abilities too. But this set 
of clarifications has already gone past my interest level, so.... ;-)
