Hi Alan,
on your site here [1], you list the HTML 4.0 entities; great resource!
I have never been sure which is more correct, though, the numerical form
or the alphabetical form. e.g.
dagger († or †)
em dash (— or —)
For humans, clearly it is better to use the latter alphabetical form so
that it is clearer when browsing source code which ones are daggers and
which ones are em dashes, for instance.
But are there either formal or prosaic reasons why one ought to use the
— form instead?
