[thelist] Dedicated Server Hosting

I understand that discussions about dedicated server
hosting come up on this list from time to time and I
went through some of the old threads to see which
service providers were most recommended.

It appears that ThePlanet.com seems to be a favorite.
I priced one of their "Total Control" servers and
while the base price was attractive, once I added some
of the services I need such as dual mirrored hard
drives (RAID 1), a hardware firewall and dedicated SQL
server workgroup edition, the cost of the server
almost doubled.

I priced a similar server on GoDaddy.com (without the
dual processors since they do not offer that option)
and the cost was almost half that of The Planet. I
have several websites hosted with GoDaddy and have
been generally happy with their service (I am also
glad that they scrapped their plans to go public, but
I digress). Does anyone on this list have any thoughts
about hosting a dedicated server on GoDaddy?

Rackspace was another option I considered but some of
the recent reviews I have seen about them have not
been very good. I have priced servers on Rackspace in
the past and found them to be prohibitively expensive,
in spite of the "fanatical support" that they offer.

If you use some other provider and are happy with
their service, I would love to hear about it. Your
feedback would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Asif
