[thelist] Attaining reliable MAC Address using javascript

I think you guys are all thinking of IP addresses (proxies, NAT devices etc)
will substitute their own IP address for the original client's IP address.

For MAC addresses, this doesn't go beyond the local collision domain. Each
gateway/router between the client and server substitutes it's own MAC address
on the packet, before forwarding to the next gateway/router, or to the end
recipient.

Cheers
Ken

Correct, a proxy server, firewall or other similar device often masquerades
its own MAC address as it is actively managing the connection between the
nodes. This solution will not work as expected.

For my own interest, is it not the case that a single MAC address can
represent all interfaces behind it as in the case of certain routers or a
shared wireless connection?
