If it's still happening, you can get your host/ISP involved by asking them to watch traffic upstream...

Other than that, you can look up the IP addresses through www.arin.net (if they're stateside; otherwise it will point you to the appropriate authority).  From there you may be able to contact the block owner and see what methods they have for tracking who's using what IP (assuming it's not spoofed).

I run a pretty good-sized website that gets between 80-120,000 unique
visits per month. This morning, the site suddently went down because
there were more than 200 connections to the database (shared hosting
environment).

My suspicion is that we have a couple of spammers that are trying to
hit the contact form. I have a couple of IP addresses that have a low
number of visits, but have used a ton of bandwidth. Any way for me to
figure out who the culprit is?
