Actually, yes I did look, and yes there is a cost... 0_o ???

If I read the site information correctly, then I would need to  
download the "MySQL Enterprise" version, as I am after all of the  
things ascribed to it. It is also $595 dollars for that service and  
support.

Had I gone the "MySQL Community" version, then it would have been  
free, but, the caveat was that I knew what I was doing (I don't),  
that I understand the security issues involved (again, I do not),  
that I was comfortable managing my own databases ( I am not, yet)

So, I sought an alternative, and the MAMP one is proving to be most  
appropriate, with many thanks to kasimir-k (O:

??? Have you actually looked at the MySQL site? There is no cost to
download and use it as you're describing...
