I am assuming you are on Windows not Linux, but what specific version are you running?  What is the hardware profile (specifically, memory and CPU)?

Is this on a partition that you could (theoretically) blow away and rebuild?  That may be the last-ditch scenario, but let's discuss where you are and try to get you out as gracefully as possible.
