This is a really good point and is actually why I'd shy away from iphone
specific pages.  We'll end up in 1998 soon enough.  For scripting, object
detection makes sense but for style and layout, the only thing it seems we
should be considering is perhaps being a little more verbose with containing
elements to aid with element zooming.  Even then, I'll prolly continue to
build pages how I think God almighty wants me to build them and then
test/tweak for the iphone.

In the case of a huge, high traffic site like facebook or twitter, there's a
compelling business reason to generate iphone specific pages - bandwidth!
Similarly, these sites both use a lot of JS to make the magic happen so in
that case, again, it may make sense to offer iphone specific pages.

For now, I'm going with your original option 1) KISS.
