You mentioned that you use Authorize.Net. Check out their Automated
Recurring Billing guide:

There's a field you can pass in an XML or SOAP request called
trialOccurrences that will allow you to specify that the credit card won't
be run for three months (or whatever) as a free trial.  You just pass that
along with all the other credit card information and Authorize.Net, as it
bills regularly according to what you specify, will not bill the card those
first X cycles.
